The point of polemics from a Marxist standpoint is to show the faults of revisionist and right wing organizations and people and to highlight the more advanced and more fully communist perspective, thereby pushing the audience away from the former and in the direction of the latter. They are as essential as communist theory itself to getting where we need to go. Without criticism and self-criticism, we're not going to advance and grow. No criticism, no growth.
